This week, you will submit a formal outline for your critical analysis essay. This outline should be formatted similar to your outline for the cause-and-effect essay. Choose from a list of approved articles found in the Essay Overview module. You must write your outline based on an article from the list provided:

Include your thesis statement, topic sentences, and details for each point. You must use complete sentences throughout this assignment. A template has been provided for you. Use the template.
How to use this template:
Download the , save it using your name in the file name, and edit it to fit your essay. This includes the title page AND a reference page! Refer to the list of reference page basics provided in the USLO 7.3 material.
After saving this with your name, be sure to add:
- Your thesis statement should be 1 sentence and explain why the text you chose was effective or ineffective.
- The topic sentences for each of your body paragraphs should do two things: (a) connect to the thesis statement (b) make a focused point regarding analysis of the work. These should be complete sentences, even in your outline.
- The sub-points for each topic sentence should be in complete sentences. For this essay, the sub-points are evidence and analysis used to prove and explain the topic sentence.
- Remember, too, that you must include information from your outside sources. These sources will count as evidence. Either quote or paraphrase the source in the outline using proper in-text citations and a reference page. You need to include at least four citations in your outline. Each paragraph that refers to source material must contain a citation that points to a corresponding reference.
- Please refer to the example outline in the textbook as a model.
Something to consider:
The outline provided for this assignment allows for four body paragraphs, with five details per paragraph. It is okay to use less of the outline template or to add to it, as the template is a guide.
