Criminology research methods

EXAM #1 Answer both of the questions below in detail. Each question is worth 50 points. See the associated grading rubric for precise details on how to earn points. Briefly, answers will be graded on whether they answer the question, whether they are accurate, whether they are grammatically correct, and whether they are logically assembled. Each answer can be no longer than five pages double spaced (no smaller than 11 point font); I will not read beyond the fifth page (a total of ten pages excluding the title page and reference page). There is NO minimum page length, but the answers will likely approach 4-5 pages in length. The answers should include all relevant citations (excluding a pertinent citation will result in a lower grade). Exams must be delivered to the Digital Dropbox (on Canvas) no later than 11:59 pm EST on February 27th (no exceptions100 points are deducted for each minute that the paper is late). I will not accept exams via email. All exams must include a reference page and your name should be typed on the last page of the exam. Last words of advice: do not cheat or plagiarizeI will catch you and you will fail the course. All work must be conducted individually and your exam must include only original work that has not been submitted for another course. Failure to follow these instructions will adversely affect your grade. Your grades will be posted on Canvas as soon as I have finished grading all of them. If you have any questions about the grade that you received, feel free to contact me. 1. Identify a population that is of interest to criminologists. Describe, in detail, the three most appropriate sampling procedures that you would use to draw a sample from this population. Be sure to explain these three sampling techniques fully and make sure you provide a strong rationale for why these three sampling techniques are appropriate for the population of interest. 2. Suppose you were interested in determining whether a variable, X, is a cause of another variable, Y. If you had unlimited resources at your disposal, describe the research design(s) that you would use to try to figure out whether X is really a cause of Y. Be sure to provide sufficient detail when describing your research design(s).
