Course Project: Project Status Report

This assignment is part of the course project. Refer to

This part of the course project requires creating a project status report for your scenario using a new tool. Project management is a dynamic field with numerous tools and resources available. The project management software tool you are using is powerful and can quickly build out schedules, task lists, reports, and more. These items are valuable because you provided the essential data with your scenario and additional tasks. Accurate human input allows the project management software tool to provide strong output.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools also combine essential human input with high-powered computing to produce valuable outcomes. GenAI has the ability to create new content on demand, including text, images, and audio. GenAI tools can assist in various aspects of project management, from automating routine tasks to providing advanced data analysis and decision-making support.

GenAI has numerous tools you may already be familiar with, like language learning apps that personalize your experience to your needs. In contrast, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is found in virtual assistants that understand commands, control home devices, answer questions, and connect to apps.

Note: You may choose a different GenAI tool or choose not to use GenAI for this assignment.

As for the best ways to use AI in project management, here are some key applications:

  1. Automating Routine Tasks: AI can handle repetitive tasks like scheduling, updating project plans, and generating reports, freeing up project managers to focus on more strategic activities
  2. Predictive Analytics: AI can analyze historical data to predict potential risks and project outcomes, helping managers make informed decisions
  3. Resource Management: AI tools can optimize resource allocation by analyzing project requirements and team capabilities
  4. Enhanced Communication: AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can facilitate communication within project teams and with stakeholders, ensuring everyone stays informed and aligned
  5. Improving Accuracy: AI can help in generating more accurate time and cost estimates, reducing the likelihood of project overruns

Include the following:

  • What activities do you predict during the project closure phase?
  • Summarize the purpose and importance of a project status report.
  • Describe your project status at the halfway point of the timeline.
  • Summarize your experience using GenAI as a strategy for project management.
  • Discuss the prompt experience as well as the quality of your results.
  • Reflect on the experience, including key concepts, AI perspective, and understanding.
  • Consider methods to further your AI knowledge and skills.

Technique Only: I would break the response up into 3 sections:

1 – 4-5 sentences Closure Phase and Status Report Explain what activities are expected in the closing phase of a project and why a PM uses this phased approach. e.g., Benefits and Strengths. This is mostly PMI-derived and academic.

2 – 6-8 sentences [put your weight of effort into this section] Describe your project status at the halfway point. Taking into consideration what a status report is used for and the closing elements, your PID, and your project planning/excursion details unique to your project, what “effectors” or “attributes” are driving your project delivery what should the PM watch out for (delays, quality, supply, resources, etc.)? Every student approached their scenario differently, so this will be tailored to the types of activities you selected, timelines, where you interpreted the most risk, etc. You can bulletize this if you wish.

3 – 4-5 sentences Using AI as a tool, how can it be effective in your specific project based on your individualized project approach so far? Explore what you have come up with in your execution, generate a few AI prompts, review the outputs, and assess the validity of AI within your scenario — does it fit well, what are the benefits, risks, and “ways” you might use it or why would you not use it.

Prompts in GenAI are instructions or questions that you provide to get a specific response or output from the AI model. Think of a prompt as a way to tell the AI what you want it to do. It involves some experimenting to get familiar with the process.

For example:

  • Task: Generate a summary of an aviation article.
  • Basic Prompt: “Summarize the following article.”
  • Refined Prompt: “Summarize the main findings and conclusions of the following aviation article, highlighting any significant data and implications for future research.”
