First complete the assigned reading and video for this Module, then address these questions as a single thread in this forum:
- What is being contested and what parties are involved in the conflict, as recorded in the classic documentary film Broken Rainbow? What expressive and communicative techniques does a documentary film like this use to present the material that a Social Sciences article might not be able to? How does the film evoke a sense of place? How does it move our emotions & our sense of justice?
- Burkhard Bilger offers an interdisciplinary perspective to a contested building in the “Mystery on Pearl Street.” First briefly summarize the dispute. Then choose one of the disciplines he uses–Law, History, Architectural History, Business–and tell us what perspective you think this discipline offers on the issue? Please support your statements with evidence from the article in the form of quotes, paraphrases & summaries, with citations.
- Third, tell us about a dispute over a specific place that you are aware of–it can be a conflict over the fate of a building, the use of a piece of land, forest, river, mountain, etc. Use something specific, rather than a large international dispute or a war. You may need to do some research for this question.
