Unit 3 – Individual Project (125 points)
Due: Sun, Mar 1 |
Description
Assignment Details
Before submitting your assignment, create an outline, write a draft based on this outline, run a Grammarly report on the draft, and edit and revise as necessary. Your submission should be the product of your own critical thinking and deductive reasoning.
An important part of conducting a successful literature review is curating, organizing, and categorizing the resources that you will use throughout this iterative process. In other words, your literature review is constantly evolving, so it is important to have an inventory or library of relevant literature at your disposal. It is important to understand that relevance is not static; you will continuously add resources to your library that may or may not appear in the final product. Although your library may contain various types of resources (e.g., white papers, conference proceedings, gray literature, trade publications, and so on), the overwhelming majority of your resources should be peer-reviewed scholarly work. You may find that as you analyze, synthesize, and integrate knowledge gained through the literature review process, the relevance of resources may shift, so it is important to keep all resources in your library.
This assignment includes 2 required parts, as follows:
Part 1
For Part 1 of this Individual Project (IP), you will create a literature library with a minimum of 30 references on the themes and subthemes of your study topic. A good place to start your library is with the annotations that you created in RSCH860, the work that you did for your Research Prospectus in RSCH861, and from the core and concentration courses that you have taken prior to reaching RSCH862. Your library will support you as you continue to acquire more knowledge related to your study topic and subtopics.
Create your library, using the software of your choice (e.g., Word, Excel, or bibliographic reference software, such as EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero, RefWorks, and others). Regardless of the option that you choose, each entry should include at least the following information:
Once you have created the structure for your library, you are ready to compile your resources.
Instructions for Compiling the Library
Complete the following:
1. Select a theme or subtheme from your study topic to start with.
2. Go to the CTU Library or another credible source (Google Scholar, government sites, open-source sites, and so on). Search for sources that are timely, relevant, referenced, or peer-reviewed (e.g., no Wikipedia, opinion pieces, or sales or marketing resources).
3. Select an article of interest to you, and skim it. Highlight or notate passages that are of relevance to your study. You do not need to learn or know everything in the article, so avoid highlighting or notating copious amounts of text.
4. After you have skimmed and identified the relevant passages, add this resource and any relevant information that is appropriate for the headings that you have included in your library.
5. Repeat Steps 24 using a different source on the same topic that you selected. Remember, you are mastering the literature.
6. In this assignment, complete this process for each theme or subtheme until you have added a minimum of 30 references.
If you are not using citation management software, you can use this Excel template. This template includes examples that you will need to remove prior to entering your own sources.
As you develop your literature review, you will continue to add sources to this library. At the end of RSCH862, your library should contain approximately 6080 relevant sources.
Part 2
Create an outline of the major topic or theme areas and subtopic or subtheme areas that exist in your review of the literature thus far. This will aid you as you begin drafting the literature review in this course.
Submit your library and your outline in separate files.
Please submit your assignment on Sunday of the unit (11:59:59pm Central Time).

Unit 9 – Individual Project (500 points)
Due: Sun, Apr 19 |
Description
Assignment Details
For this individual Project (IP), write a draft of the following three sections of your literature review:
In addition, revisit the introduction to Chapter 2 that you produced for the Unit 4 IP, and refine it as you deem necessary now that you are close to completing your Literature Review chapter. Remember that you are compiling all of your work on Chapter 2 into the pertinent sections of the Chapter 2 portion of the appropriate dissertation template (qualitative, quantitative, design science, and action research). Be sure that you compose each of these sections following the specific guidance provided within the template in terms of expected content.
This assignment has two parts, as follows:
Part 1 (approximately 2 pages)
Draft the Gaps in the Literature, Conclusions, and Chapter Summary sections of your literature review in the appropriate template using the guidance found in the template, as follows:
Part 2
Compile a complete draft of your Literature Review chapter in the appropriate dissertation template. This draft should incorporate feedback that you have acquired from your instructor and colleagues.
As you write your literature review, you should do a final check to update the reference list in the template that you are using. Every source that you have cited should be listed in correct APA format. Also, no sources should appear in the References section of the dissertation template that are not cited in your Literature Review chapter.
Remember, in this chapter, you are striving to demonstrate mastery of your study topic. There is not an exact science to determining mastery. You are expected to know as much about the topics and subtopics of your proposed research as any scholar based on the body of knowledge (e.g., published works, scholarly works, and other credible sources). This is expected to be evidenced by 6080 or more sources in the reference list and approximately 20 pages of exposition in your Literature Review chapter.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because this is the milestone assignment for RSCH862, it will be graded using the Milestone Evaluation Rubric. If your assignment receives a pass on the Milestone Evaluation Rubric, you will receive the maximum number of points allotted for this assignment and pass the course. If your assignment receives a no pass, you will receive a score of 0 on the assignment and will be required to repeat the course.
Please submit your assignment on Sunday of the unit (11:59:59pm Central Time).
