1. Attend a full meeting of a medical, family or support community support group as approved
by your clinical instructor.
2. Contact the group coordinator for permission prior to attending the group.
3. In a minimal two-page double spaced paper (APA style required) discuss the following:
a. Discuss your thoughts, feelings & beliefs that you have about the disease, condition,
meetings or families who attend before attending the meeting. Were any preconceptions
different after attending the meeting? Was the meeting in your opinion helpful? What
was the experience like from a personal and professional view? Did you expect a specific
population to attend? Explain and be honest!
b. List when, where & what type of meeting you attended. Who was in charge of the
meeting & what was their professional background? Please make sure it is an
open meeting.
c. Discuss the content that was discussed by the families at the meeting. How has the
disease or situation affected their lives? What coping strategies were used by any of these family
members? Does the family discuss any social support systems? If so who? Be descriptive.
d. Discuss if this is a targeted Population by Healthy People 2020. If so, discuss which
initiatives it applies to and why.
4. If you could take one thing that youve learnt from this scenario and apply it in clinical
what would it be? What did you learn from this experience?
I completed my community support group experience using the InTheRoom.com tool to attend meetings. The meetings I was apart of a majority of the time were NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS and ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS. I joined about 6 meetings each lasting about 1 hour long. Please write the essay following the directions provided.
