Please refer to whichever code most closely aligns with your interests. Some groups are represented in this week’s content – but a quick google search should allow for most interested to be represented. Remember, if you do not have a specific interest in a healthcare field yet – choose one and let me know which you choose.
These questions are about considering about how would the Code impact your decisions. Be honest about the first question, remember there is no judgment from faculty, and assignments are only read by faculty. We all have our own line in the sand about certain issues that would make it very hard if faced with them to be impartial or be what the Code states we need to be within our profession.
Healthcare professionals provide care to people at some of the best and worst times of life.
- Question 1: What action or event would prevent you from providing compassionate care to a specific individual? Do a little self reflection on the why of your answer.
- Question 2: What if you had to care for a patient suspected of injuring themselves when detonating a bomb deliberately targeting civilians…how would the Code impact your decision? Cite specific standards/values/principles from the code of ethics.
- Question 3: If a health service or healthcare professional observes a violation of law, policy, or ethical standards that could jeopardize patient safety, What guidance does the code provide? Cite specific standards/values/principles from the code of ethics that support your answer.
- Question 4: Explain whether a person in health services or healthcare is required to act altruistically by placing the patients needs before their own personal safety. Cite specific standards/values/principles from the code of ethics that support your answer.
