ChatGPT and its impact on academia and society

You will write a proposal offering suggested guidelines or solutions to the problem posed by ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (LLM) program that is capable of composing complex text. We will spend time in class looking at ChatGPT, experimenting with it, reading various articles about it from scholars and journalists, and then discussing the issues it presents to us in academia and in our wider society. You will then write a proposal that fully describes the issue/problem with ChatGPT, proposes a solution or guidelines for beneficial action for college students and teachers, and backs up that proposal with quality, academic research. Ask questions as you go so that you can be sure to address them in your writing is this REALLY a problem? Is there REALLY benefit in this offering/change? Who does it affect? How much might your proposal cost? Who is going to pay? Who needs to get involved? How do we know this will work? Whats so good about your answer to the problem? Be sure to write a clear, compelling introduction that includes a thesis statement where your specific proposal is made clear in your thesis statement. Then, each body paragraph should focus on one point or aspect of that proposal, supporting your thesis and proving that it is true/right. Be sure to tie each body paragraph back to your thesis statement. The concluding paragraph should wrap up and restate your argument. Your analysis should be formatted according to MLA style. See the model essays posted in Moodle for what an MLA research essay should look like. Your essay should be at least 1100 words. You are also required to use at least two academic sources (from library databases) in your analysis. Think BIG when thinking of research for this assignment.
