Capstone project research framed within sociology

Peer Presentations in our Senior Capstone course are designed to help you share information about your project ideas and progress with the course instructor and other students. We will conduct several Peer Presentations over the course of the semester. The 3MT format was designed by the University of Queensland in Australia to help cultivate students academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The goal of these 3MT presentations is to effectively explain your Capstone research in three minutes, in easy-to-understand language. I recommend you review this guide for preparing your presentation. Some key rules include: Three minutes in length (presentations will be timed); One single static PowerPoint slide is permitted; No slide transitions, animations or movement of any description are permitted; Your slide is to be presented from the beginning of your oration; and No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted. For this first 3MT Peer Presentation, we will share our progress with the literature review and outline the topics that we plan to cover. We will also share a theoretical framework for couching our capstone project within sociology and summarize two to three scholarly sources that relate to our topic in an interesting way. Your Peer Presentation should include: An overview of the topics that you plan to include in your Literature Review A description of your theoretical framework for studying your topic A brief summary of two or three scholarly sources that relate to your capstone project Please share your PowerPoint slide with me via email at ********************** on the day prior to your presentation (by 5:00PM). Grading criteria include: The presentation slide was shared with me the day prior by 5pm The presentation slide is clearly formatted and easy-to-read Includes your name and a presentation title Not too cluttered with text (or too sparse with lots of white space) There are no misspellings or grammatical errors in the text The presentation is not too long (>3.5 min) or too short (<2.5 min) The presentation is clear and provides key points of information Includes an overview of the topics you plan to cover in your literature review A description of the theoretical framework for couching your topic within sociology A review of two or three scholarly sources that relate to your capstone project topic
