My capstone paper examines the relationship between genetic disorders and communication development, with a focus on how genetic differences influence speech, language, and social communication skills. The paper explores the biological and neurological foundations of communication impairments, including how genetic factors affect expressive language, receptive language, and social interaction abilities. Through a review of peer-reviewed research, I analyze developmental patterns, underlying mechanisms, and the variability in communication outcomes among individuals with genetic conditions. The purpose of this paper is to deepen understanding of how genetics contributes to communication differences and to highlight the importance of early identification, assessment, and intervention. This research is especially relevant to the field of speech-language pathology, as it supports clinicians in providing effective, individualized care for individuals with genetic-related communication disorders.
