1. Choose Your Article

Pick a current and key article which addresses any of the concepts we learned this week. The article could be from either the WSJ, NYT, or LAT, and can be located in several sections such as:

  • Economy and Markets
  • Business and Finance
  • Politics
  • Technology
  • Global News

Select articles that you find most relevant or impactful for the week. The articles MUST be accounting related, and they must have relevance to the topics learned in this module. Make a note of the link to the article as well as the title, author(s), and date. You will need to include this information in your analysis summary.

2. Write a Brief Introduction

Write a brief introductory paragraph using 3-4 sentences, introduce the focus of your summary. You can mention the overall themes covered in the articles you selected.

Example sentence:

3. Key Issues from Each Article

The next paragraph should include the following:

  • Title and Source: Mention the article’s title and section.
  • Main Idea/Topic: Summarize the core of the article
  • Key Issues: Include important facts, figures, or insights listed in bullet point format.

Example:

  • Title and Source: “Global Markets See Surge as Inflation Fears Ease” from the Global News section of WSJ

  • Key Issues:
  • U.S. inflation data shows signs of easing, encouraging investor confidence.
  • European and Asian markets follow suit, benefiting from strong corporate earnings.
  • Economists predict moderate growth in the upcoming quarter.

4. Analysis/Personal Insight

The next 2-3 paragraphs should contain your analysis and personal insight. Here are a few questions to consider.

  • How does the information impact the economy, business, or society?
  • How do the concepts you learned this week relate to the issues in the article?
  • Do you agree or disagree with the viewpoint of the article(s)?

Example sentence:

“The easing of inflation concerns may bring a period of stability to the stock market, but investors should remain cautious, as economic factors like global supply chain disruptions still pose risks.”
