Assignment Overview:
In this reflection-based critical thinking task, you will evaluate a real-world health promotion program using public sources and apply evaluation models from the course. You will select a publicly visible health promotion program (national, state, or local) and assess its effectiveness using standard public health evaluation models and metrics.
Assignment Components
Step 1: Select a Real-World Health Promotion Program
Choose a specific program with publicly available outcomes or data (e.g., CDCs Tips from Former Smokers, a local Move More fitness initiative, or a school-based nutrition program).
Briefly describe:
- The target population
- The health issue addressed
- The goals/objectives of the program
Step 2: Apply an Evaluation Framework
Use one of the following models/frameworks to structure your evaluation:
- RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance)
- Logic Model (Inputs, Activities, Outputs, Outcomes)
- CDCs Framework for Program Evaluation
Evaluate:
- At least 2 metrics (e.g., behavior change, disease incidence, awareness)
- Whether outcomes met the programs goals
- Limitations or gaps in data or delivery
Step 3: Reflection and Recommendation (300400 words)
Write a personal analysis that reflects on:
- The programs overall effectiveness
- How evaluation helped you better understand real-world implementation
- One recommendation you would make to improve or expand the program
- How this evaluation process aligns with CHES Area 4 competencies
