Interview someone from an ethnic group different than your own
- Interview guidelines:
- Identify somebody whose ethnic is different from yours. Conduct an interview that discusses interviewee’s country of origin or descent, ethnic traditions, language, religion, costumes, staple foods, music and social determinants that positively and or negatively impact the group. Ask the interviewee to list two things he/she likes the most and two things he/she likes the least about his/her culture.

- After watching the assigned videos, reading the assigned articles, and conducting the interview, in an essay form, write a two to three double space paper that addresses the following.
- Identify your own ethnic background (You just need to identify your ethnic background the focus is on the interviewee and culture)
- Describe what you have learned about your interviewee culture (including country of origin or descent, ethnic traditions, language, religion, costumes and staple foods, music)?
- describe the factors (social determinants) that positively and or negatively affect people from your interviewee ethnic group in general (ensure you cite your source)?
- Provide an example of when you had to use empathy during the interview
- Describe this activity (conducting the interview, watching the videos, and reading the article) helped you identify your own biases? Provide an example
- Formulate two recommendations on how to work with persons whose culture, religion, politics differs from one’s own culture. Include two ways we can address a culturally sensitive issue
- Formulate two recommendations on how to help people change unhealthy practices that have been part of their culture for generations?
