Writing Exercise
After completing the reading, review the Suggested Writing Exercise for the Chapter. Write your response in a clear and organized manner. Ensure your reflection is typed on a Word Document and is in MLA Format:
- At least 500 words,
- Double-spaced with 1-inch margins around,
- Times New Roman 12-point font, and
- Covers the assigned topic/prompt
Support your thoughts and ideas for your reflection by using references from the readings.
Note: If the topic seems too personal or brings up emotions or feelings that you feel you cannot discuss, you may choose an alternate topic from the suggested writings in the Chapter. Indicate in your assignment which writing you chose or if you need an alternate assignment.
Prompt
Imagine that you are speaking with someone who is from a culture different from your own and who has values that you do not fully understand or agree with.
- How would you begin a dialogue with this person?
- How would you articulate your values to them?
- How would you attempt to understand their values in a way that does more than just dismiss them?
- Would your answers to these questions change at all if, in this situation, you were either a doctor or a patient?
Think about these questions, and then spend fifteen to twenty minutes writing about how you would approach the situation.
