Each student has a personal set of values and beliefs that inform his or her approach to education. Understanding the underlying philosophy that drives these values and beliefs helps students develop an awareness of why they do what they do both as learners and as teachers.
In a well-written essay of approximately three pages, construct a personal philosophical statement that describes your beliefs about adult education and the adult learner. Include the following topics for discussion: Purpose, Learner, Teacher, Methods and Concepts. Reference the philosophical frameworks that inform your choices and explain why you have chosen them. As is true with all written assignments, edit and proofread carefully.
Note: Few people embrace every aspect of one philosophic framework; indeed, the majority of students create a collage of sorts borrowing from a number of different frameworks.
