While everyones reading journey is different, there are often pieces that connect to other peoples journeys. Reading about someone who has had a similar experience, along with the strategies and resources that were helpful to them, can assist you as you reflect on your own journey. Consider the similarities between your reading journey and the journey of the author you selected. You will use those similarities to write an essay about your reading experiences and the approach you need to take with your reading in the future. This essay can be considered a personal narrative, which means you should use the first-person perspective.
Write
You will write an essay with at least five paragraphs (introduction with thesis statement, at least three body paragraphs, and a conclusion) in 2 to 3 pages in APA Style format. In your essay:
- To introduce your essay, express some of your current thoughts on reading and its importance.
- Your thesis statement should relate to your relationship with reading and/or how you want to change or enhance that relationship.
- Describe how your relationship with reading is enjoyable and/or challenging.
- Share specific examples, such as if you tend to enjoy reading, but certain types of reading are difficult for you.
- State specific situations and how frequently they occur, such as sometimes or always.
- Relate your reading experiences with your chosen literacy narrative.
- What experiences were similar? What differed? Be sure to share specific examples from your chosen literacy narrative.
- Cite specific examples from the literacy narrative through a quote or a paraphrase.
- Explain the changes and/or enhancements you need to make in your approach to reading.
- Summarize your experience and what your approach will need to be in the future.
- Consider the information in the literacy narrative you chose as well as the first week of this course.
- Be sure to restate your thesis statement in your conclusion.
Format
Your Reading Story essay
- must be 2 to 3 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to
- as outlined in the Writing Centers

- title of paper in bold font
- Space should appear between the title and the rest of the information on the title page.

- must include an introduction and conclusion paragraph.
- Your introduction paragraph needs to end with a clear thesis statement that indicates the purpose of your paper.
