Both the Wandjina paintings and The Scream hold a very eerie image that personally looks at the audience like they are looking at something that gives them agony or fear by the way the subjects hold their mouth open in shock, and their eyes widen. However, the Wandjina paintings look much older and are made with different materials with less vibrant colors. The Scream painting has vibrant colors, unlike the Wandjina. In The scream it has only one individual upfront looking at the audience, while in the Wandjina, there are multiple individuals looking at us and around as if aware of something else. The scream looks a little more direct to us than the Wandjina paintings that seem to be looking at all around, including us. I think the Scream is directly telling us their fear and anxiety in everyday life. The Wandjina feels like a ritualistic painting, perhaps about the afterlife; their faces seem fierce yet with fear and shock.
