Taking the Letter to the Editor that you created in Unit 5, you will reshape it into a 4 to 5-page argumentative essay for an academic audience. Consider how the shift in audience and text changes your rhetorical choices, including your strategies, organization, background information, wording, and tone.
Your submission should include two parts:
- Argumentative Essay (45 pages)
- Written for an academic audience
- Must follow APA formatting (title page, in-text citations, references)
- Includes:
- A clear thesis statement
- Well-developed main ideas supported by evidence
- A counterargument with a thoughtful response
- At least five credible sources integrated into the essay
- Reflective Piece (2 pages) A reflection responding to the following questions:
- What rhetorical changes were most significant as you reshaped your work for an academic audience (e.g., tone, evidence, structure)?
- What challenges did you face in adapting your Letter to the Editor into an academic essay, and how did you address them?
- Looking back, what does this assignment reveal to you about the differences between writing for a general audience and an academic one?
- How might what you learned about shifting audience and genre apply to your future academic or professional writing?
