Apportionment and redistricting impact on civic participatio…

Write an essay describing how any aspect of the apportionment or redistricting process (e.g., partisan gerrymandering, majority-minority districts) uniquely impact the civic participation of different groups in the United States. In other words, how does some feature of apportionment or redistricting (or the entire process itself) shape how people participate in politics (e.g., vote, protest, volunteer, donate).

The description must discuss how apportionment and/or redistricting might impact the participation of different groups in the U.S. (e.g., racial, religious, social class, economic class, veterans versus non-veterans, highly-educated versus less-educated). This is an AMIT General Studies requirement.

AMIT also requires the use of qualitative or quantitative evidence in structuring the argument. Therefore, all essays must include at least 5 citations to either Chapter 12 in the textbook, the article by Loaned, Ritchie, and Lauterbach, or any of the lectures for week 6 covering “representation” or “redistricting.” Each citation should link an argument or claim regarding the linkage between an electoral institution and civic engagement to a specific piece of evidence in the chapter or lecture.

Citations for the textbook should include the exact page number where the evidenced is located in the textbook. Citations for the lecture should contain the name of the lecture and the time within the video where the evidence is located. The fairly to provide all five citations will likely result in a failing grade for the entire assignment. Note: Citing fake or non-existent sources is an academic integrity violation. Formating: Essays should be between 2-3 pages long. Paragraph one should describe the institutional feature in detail.

The remaining paragraphs should be used to discuss the impact of the institution on civic participation among different groups. Use 12 point Times New Roman font. Double space the essay. Use standard Microsoft Word one-inch margins. Submissions should be in a Word document.

The use of AI is prohibited. Any plagiarized essays will receive a zero and referred to the Dean of Students for reprimand. No late work will be accepted on this assignment.
