Apply Research to Your Practicum

Overall: Recall and share an experience at your agency, whether that be with clients, staff, or the community. What were your thoughts and feelings during the interaction?

List and briefly describe two to three organizations that provide data or research for the population and social problems at your practicum site (examples: SAMSHA, CDC, NIH, National Child Welfare, Kaiser Family Foundation, Annie E Kasey Foundation). How can you use the information provided to understand and describe issues of ADEI with the population at your practicum?

Find two advocacy organizations that work to promote ADEI, human rights, or social justice for the type of populations at your practicum. Briefly describe their work and how you could benefit from engagement with that organization, whether it be subscribing to a newsletter, joining, or attending a conference or training. The organizations can be local, state, national or international. An example is the NAACP or a local chapter of NAMI.

Find two professional journals that address topics for your population and services. Provide the name of the journals, a link to each, and a brief description of how the journal relates to the population and services at your practicum site.

Select two articles from the journals that reflect a social justice approach to a social problem related to your practicum site. Provide the APA reference for that article and a 2-3 sentence summary of what you learned from that journal.
