Annotated Bibliography (Using ChatGPT)
NOTE: Prior to completing this assignment make sure you have read the three assigned readings related to AI (i.e., Fulgu & Capraro, 2024; Jenka, 2023; Verma & Oremus, 2023).
In this assignment youll be utilizing the CSUDH library database as well as ChatGPT. The purpose is to demonstrate how both can be valuable tools when looking for peer-reviewed research.
The first step is to find a journal article from the library database. As explained in class I recommend starting with PsychInfo. Google Scholar can also be useful, but it may be more difficult for an initial search as Google Scholar is obviously not limited to just research in psychology. The article found for this assignment must be directly relevant to your teams factorial design.
The second step is to upload the article into ChatGPT and ask ChatGPT to summarize the main points of the article. Depending on how long the article is the summary ChatGPT provides may be long. For this assignment I request that the summary be one page in length (double space, 1-inch margins, appropriate font type and size).
For step three, read the article and write your own summary. The summary should also be one page in length (double space, 1-inch margins, appropriate font type and size). Your summary should mention any key research or theory that inspired the study, key details from the methodology (i.e., who were the participants [if any], what measurement tool[s] were used, what were the participants asked to do [if no participants then explain what the researchers did]), what were the findings, and what were the key takeaways/analysis.
Next you need to write a reflection paper in which you address the quality of ChatGPTs summary compared to your own. Your reflection paper should include commentary on if it included all key details, did it make any hallucinations, did it show bias, did it make any redundancies, etc.? The reflection paper needs to be a minimum of one page in length.
Finally, create a properly formatted references page where you list both your article and ChatGPT.
The grading rubric is as follows:
Proper formatting (i.e., double spacing, 1-inch margin, appropriate font) = 1 point
1-page summary of the article from ChatGPT was included = 1 point
Students original summary (introduction, methods, results, and discussion section) = 8 points
Reflection paper = 5 points
References page = 5 points
