The Great Migration shaped not only African American culture, but the whole of American
society as well. As Franklin and Higgenbotham (2021, p. 364) state, southern African Americans
protested with their feet by moving North and West for a better life. Students will examine the
causes of this migration and the role and impact of the Northern churches.
Read over the appropriate Learning Activity Instructions below before you begin the Module:
Week so that you can formulate a strategy for the assignment as you proceed through the
material.
INSTRUCTIONS
The essay should be in two paragraphs, addressing the assigned prompt (and grading rubric).
Students will use at least three of the Learn: Read and Watch Resources from the same Module:
Week that this Learning Activity is assigned in. In the 1st paragraph, assess the reasons for the
Great Migration and how it shaped African American churches as millions of African Americans
moved North and West out of the South. In the 2nd paragraph, discuss how these church
communities influenced the culture and politics of bourgeoning urban communities. Use a
Biblical worldview to frame your response, evaluating how both Christianity and a Christian
worldview shape your analysis of the Great Migration. Hint: referencing Scriptures with a direct
verse or passage makes your Biblical connection very strong!
Each Learning Activity must be well-structured, be carefully edited and revised, and demonstrate
knowledge and application of the concepts studied in the readings for that Module: Week.
Each Learning Activity must be 300350 words and include the word count in parentheses. If
any outside sources are used, they must adhere to current APA format.
