Many sudden illnesses share similar signs and symptoms (confusion, sweating, dizziness, altered mental status). Using your notes, how would you differentiate between a diabetic emergency, stroke, poisoning, and fainting at the sceneand how would those differences change your decision to CALL 9-1-1 or provide care first?
In your answer, be sure to address:
- Which specific signs/symptoms point toward one condition over another?
- Which conditions require immediate 9-1-1 even if the person is responsive?
- When is giving sugar appropriateand when is it dangerous?
- What information do you gather during CHECK that prevents a wrong decision?
